Peak Effects in Stable Linear Difference Equations

چکیده
We consider asymptotically stable scalar difference equations with unit-norm initial conditions. First, it is shown that the solution may happen to deviate far away from the equilibrium point at finite time instants prior to converging to zero. Second, for a number of root distributions and initial conditions, exact values of deviations or lower bounds are provided. Several specific difference equations known from the literature are also analyzed and estimates of deviations are proposed. Possible generalizations, e.g., to the vector case are discussed and directions for future research are outlined.

Investigation of the Effects of Non-Linear and Non-Homogeneous Non-Fourier Heat Conduction Equations on Temperature Distribution in a Semi-Infinite Body
In this paper, the non-Fourier heat conduction in a semi-infinite body was examined. The heat wave non-Fourier heat conduction model was used for thermal analysis. Thermal conductivity was assumed temperature-dependent which resulted in a non-linear equation. The heat source was also considered temperature-dependent which resulted in a non-homogeneous equation. The Mac-Cormack predictor-correct...
متن کاملNovel Methods for Solving Severely Ill-posed Linear Equations System
We treat an ill-posed system of linear equations by transforming it into a linear system of stiff ordinary differential equations (SODEs), adding a differential term on the left-hand side. In order to overcome the difficulty of numerical instability when integrating the SODEs, Liu [20] has combined nonstandard finite difference method and group-preserving scheme, namely the nonstandard group-pr...
متن کاملAPPROXIMATION OF STOCHASTIC PARABOLIC DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS WITH TWO DIFFERENT FINITE DIFFERENCE SCHEMES
We focus on the use of two stable and accurate explicit finite difference schemes in order to approximate the solution of stochastic partial differential equations of It¨o type, in particular, parabolic equations. The main properties of these deterministic difference methods, i.e., convergence, consistency, and stability, are separately developed for the stochastic cases.
متن کاملUnconditionally stable high-order time integration for moving mesh finite difference solution of linear convection-diffusion equations
This paper is concerned with moving mesh finite difference solution of partial differential equations. It is known that mesh movement introduces an extra convection term and its numerical treatment has a significant impact on the stability of numerical schemes. Moreover, many implicit second and higher order schemes, such as the Crank-Nicolson scheme, will loss their unconditional stability. A ...
متن کاملSolving large systems arising from fractional models by preconditioned methods
This study develops and analyzes preconditioned Krylov subspace methods to solve linear systems arising from discretization of the time-independent space-fractional models. First, we apply shifted Grunwald formulas to obtain a stable finite difference approximation to fractional advection-diffusion equations. Then, we employee two preconditioned iterative methods, namely, the preconditioned gen...
